Sodium isopropyl xanthate
Application
Proxan sodium, also known as sodium isopropyl xanthate (SIPX), is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula C₄H₇NaOS₂. It appears as a pale yellow powder or granules and is highly soluble in water. Its primary application is in the mining industry, where it functions as a collector in froth flotation processes. It is used to separate valuable metallic sulfide ores, such as copper, lead, and zinc, from their associated gangue materials. This is achieved by adsorbing onto the surfaces of sulfide mineral particles, rendering them hydrophobic.
